      The Spanish dreadnoughts were the smallest built, and were barely larger that the last of the pre-dreadnoughts.

      The ship had been damaged as a result of a Nationalist air attack, and was being repaired. A small internal explosion started a fire which did extensive damage. There were accusations of sabotage, but they were never substantiated.
